The Tuscan Red question is also an issue to a N&W connection north (and part owner at one time):  the PRR.

Now, PRR red does nor equal N&W red.

But there are paint issues.  At least on the PRR, paints could and did have some variations in color WHEN NEW, especially from different batches.  Also, paints change on the surface on an object out in the weather.

During the steam era, Lionel had the same problems.  They were not making "scale" items, but they did have some color shift problems.  With the 6464 boxcars, there may be color shifts within the same variation of a boxcar.  Theses changes were not dictated by Lionel, but because of the shift in the paint dies.

Seems the dies used today are more consistent batch to batch.
