Farewell to Steam on the N&W

I would be very curious to see some sort of locomotives/ton mile or 
locos/track mile then versus now.  It still seems like an absurdly low 
number.

Out of curiosity, what did the N&W system look like in 1958?  are there 
any maps that one might be able to view easily?
