For anyone interested;"before the "Y's",

According to timetables between 1905 & 1922, Saltville had a turntable. Oddly, it doesn't show up in one timetable(#25-5/26/12), but reappears in #28 (26 & 27 omitted) of 5/25/13. Possibly a typo. Detailed tonnage ratings for the branches first appears in #15-1/23/21, showing ratings for only locos G,M, & W's.

Likewise, for the N.C. Branch, there were wyes at Dora and Betty Baker through that period. In #32-4/1/17 "Betty Baker" is changed to "Sylvatus". Turntables were located at Ivanhoe, Galax, and Fries. Strangely, once again, the turntable at Fries disappears from the tt. in #5-1/6/07, but reappears in #28-5/25/13, a period of six years. A typo for that long? In the same #28 a new turntable location appears at Cripple Creek (Speedwell Branch) and remains until 1922. Tonnage ratings through 1922 shows only class G's.

Up to this time no turning facilities are shown for Fries Jct.

Beginning with #14-10/3/20, turntable locations and lengths are given as follows;
Saltville, Ivanhoe, Cripple Creek, Fries, Galax, all at 60 feet.
