Mallet Engines on the Saltville Branch - When?

For my 2 cents worth, I have walked to Fries Junction and I don't see where there was ever a wye track there.  It would have required another trestle!  The Galax leg heads south right over New River, so I don't see how there could have been a wye there at all, but maybe I'm wrong?  If so, speak up.
