Ampersand (&) on N&W box cars?

The change from Norfolk & Western to Norfolk and Western was effective
December 2, 1947 based upon my research notes from the Revision Books.

The increase in the height of ,and Western from 7" to 9" was issued first
for Class SK stock cars, dated January 15, 1953; the remaining classes of
boxcars using the road name, the date for change from 7" to 9" was February
25, 1953.

The increase of height of N&W from 17" to 24", and end lettering/numbering
from 4" to 7" was October 21, 1952 for Class H-2, H-2A and H-3; effective
December 17, 1952 for G-3A, G-4, G3, G-1, G-2, GU and GUb; effective
February 25, 1953 for HC, HC-1 HC-2, HC-3, HC-3A, HC-4, H-4, H-5,H-7, H-7A,
H-8

The elimination of the 1" or 1 1/2" bar above and below the reporting marks
was effective November 15, 1956.
