Ampersand (&) on N&W box cars?

Normally a stripe or different painted door on a car means it is equipped for special lading or for certain cargo only, to call attention to that fact. In this case, I believe that the 49200 is marked with the stripe to indicate that the car is equipped with automobile racks and to be used for that service.
