Hey Jeff

Here is an ebay photo of 611 on its way down the beltline in Roanoke to Roanoke Transportation Museum in 1963 after she was cosmetically restored at Roanoke Shops. Note the polished headlight ring.

The 611 was apparently touch up painted at Shaffers Crossing in August of 1959 before running the Appalachian Power excursion and the two subsequent excursion trips in October. My feeling is after being stored at Bluefield, moved to Roanoke, and stored in the roundhouse, she was looking pretty ragged, and someone said to touch up the paint on the nose before this trip. Appalachian was a big shipper, and N&W did not want to send out a ragged looking locomotive.

One did the N&W kept the chrome ring around the headlight clean and two what is the best sound decoder for the 611 in ho scale that has the right sounds fir het in the 1950s? I’m leaning hard towards TCS but I was wondering what some of you more Experienced and export modelers thought. Thank you and have a nice day.
