Re: RE: Brass N&W Class S-2 “County Car” Announcement

However, after many emails and a letter to Walthers asking for the N&W cars, they produced them for the RF&P sister cars. Who knows? The squeaky wheel often doesn't garner results!
If I remember correctly the old AHM/Rivarossi car had the vestibule end at the opposite end from the N&W cars. Maybe I have that wrong.
Still waiting for a nice reasonable model of an M-1 RPO. I just can't handle the $400-600 prices demanded by the current passenger car importers especially when, like DP and their De, M-1 and Pg cars they aren't properly painted and decaled. For those prices I expect them to be perfect.

While the N&W S2s were given Pennsy style striping, every picture and video I have seen of the cars still shows the N&W tuscan red, not the PRR brownish-maroon.

In HO, Walthers has also offered a 4140 10-6, although I don't know why they have never offered it in N&W other than N&W not being on their "playlist" for passenger cars.  For what it's worth, the old Rivarossi/AHM 10-6 is also a 4140, so there are plenty of lower-priced alternatives out there.

Besides, these cars have already been produced some 20 years ago in brass by Oriental Models, admittedly as a PRR car which was identical, but the twist is that the N&W cars were painted in PRR Tuscan as opposed to N&W Tuscan to the best of my knowledge. They are somewhat hard to locate in model form as such, however the Oriental Models import would presumably provide a ‘cost effective’ alternative since this model run didn’t have interiors fitted nor factory paint applied etc all of which tends to push prices upwards when taken into consideration with the usual inflation seen in prices for ‘new’ runs of late. Mind you this proposed release of individual cars is subject to adequate reservations being received for each in order to be considered viable, so one really needs to think seriously as to the paint scheme that you are interested in or whether to run with the undecorated version that UTI has announced at UTI 1072-4 and then have that painted to ones’ taste later should the painted cars fail to get the requisite reservations. Almost a steam or diesel era decision!

No one to date has produced this version despite the efforts by NKP Car Co. and The Coach Yard in producing other variants of the same basic plan number. One day perhaps - but new production of heavyweights are few and far between these days except for mainly the PRR/NYC/UP/D&RGW modellers but one can hope I suppose.
