Jim: The coupler pen safety guards on my model were attached on the rear frame like wings and not on the front at the of the trailing truck yoke. The model would not run because the "wings" shorted out on on the underside of the firebox. I took the rear truck off and the model ran fine. It was a streamlined 4-8-0. I had to use commercial paint remover to get the paint off the "Wings" and the yoke of the trailing truck. I they soldered the coupler pen safety  guards in the correct location and repainted the trailing truck. Changing the driving wheels to the more correct diameter was not difficult at all. Just remove the side rods and drop out the old small drivers and install the larger ones and reattach the side rods.  Make sure the gears are set in the correct position and well greased. If you look at the photos of the K2 models that have been added to this topic you will note that the decorative chrome piping on the front of the skyline casing has each of the five pieces at the same length.  This is incorrect. Each of the five pieces was a different length giving a tapered descending angle to match the contour of the skyline casing. To get a better appearance all of the five piping details should be removed and replaced. Also the headlamp is painted wrong. The basal should be chromed not black.  During all the discussion here no one has hit on the number one problem with these models. The top of the skyline casing is too flat and many of the models have a crease running down the middle which can not be easily removed. One of my friends in North Carolina opened his model box looked at the crease on the skyline casing packed it back up and returned it to Scott Mann. As for the bell location on the pilot bean look in the NWHS Archive at the drawing for the bell location and it will show that it was located on the pilot beam. I know that the photo shows a bell located higher than the pilot bean but this was not standard practice.  I also note that Stephen agrees with me on the color.  All I can say is "to each his own" .  If the Powhatan Arrow passenger cars are delivered in PRR brown they are going back. I am tired of paying big money for crap. Harold

Guys Keep the discussion going on the Sunset K2a. I have one of these in 2R that needs some work and would like to know more what needs to be improved. I have heard that Sunset offered larger drivers but would be interested in how difficult the change would be. What improvements were made to the trailing truck? Jim Kehn

" . Also the entire locomotive and tender needs repainting. I am sure that there are those who think the tuscan strip is the correct color. I do not. It is another case of PRR baby s--t brown and faded gold."

Once again Harold, I think you are dead wrong about the color!

"Other items to be changed would be the location of the bell. ( the bell sat on the pilot beam after the cooling grills were cut into the pilot shield. Before this change the bell was on top of the boiler and was never attached to the underside of a step.)"
