Homasote vs pink foam board

Hi John;

The main question needed to answer Homasote vs foam is: Are you going to be
spiking your track?

If you are going to use spikes, Homasote is the best way to go.

If you are going to be using adhesives (caulk, carpet tape, PL300, etc)
extruded foam has the advantage of being much lower weight and easier to
cut.

Where do you get pink foam in CA? I have not seen in SF Bay area. The
closest equivalent is a yellow extruded foam used on commercial
construction.

Subject: Homasote vs pink foam board

Hi modelers,

After being away from layout building for 20 years I’m ready
to get back in. I’m looking for advice on whether to use Hoamsote or pink
foam board.

I bought Seivers 48” modules in 16” and 18” widths. Either
way I’m planning on using a ¼” plywood layer. If I go with the foam should
I use the 1” or the 2” foam? The layout is in a bedroom here in Southern
California so it doesn’t get under 65* and rarely over 95*. I’m using the
plywood for mounting the turnout controllers.

While on the subject of turnout controllers I’m having a
time deciding on either the PPW/Aline “Blue Point’s” or Fast Traxx
Bullfrog’s. Any pros or cons on either?

Thank you in advance,

John Hecker
