One additional note: I always remember them operating in pairs.

I always saw GP-9s, GP-18s, RS-11s, and RS-36s (original N and W units) on the trains when visiting my grandmother and orher family in Abingdon from the 50s until the end of operations.

What type diesels would of worked the Abingdon Branch after the end of steam?
Late 50's to early 60's period.
