I agree with Ed Painter's comments about the difficulty in selecting a model paint color off the shelf to represent either N&W Tuscan Red or N&W Blue.

The best thing is to look at color photos of N&W blue units; as Ed says, you will see lots of variations in appearance.  As I understand it, the blue paint of that era, and probably earlier, oxidized easily.  I'm certain this is one reason why you see so many different "colors" of blue N&W locomotives.

Years ago in an early Society Newsletter, Tom Dressler used Floquil C&O Enchantment Blue to pain what I recall was an FM switcher.  Of course, even Floquil has changed the chemistry of its paints over the years.  In the Oct-Dec 2010 issue of the Arrow, Rick Stone used the Polly Scale version of this color to paint his 10-6 sleeper.

Like N&W "Red", the topic no-one seems to agree on among the contributors to the modeling list discussions, N&W blue too is really confusing. There was much variation as to shade.  Weathering, fading, dirt, what was painted over, new units that came in blue.......Regardless it did get lighter over time.  I've always used Scalecoat and Scalecoat II, ATSF Blue.  I like it.  It matches the blue on my Oriental C-628's and C-630's and is close to the blue on Athearn or Atlas N&W locomotives or cab models. If you look at pictures N&W e2uipment painted in "Pevler/Wabash" blue there are lots of variations.

After veiwing many pictures and models I find myself even more confused about the proper blue to
use for N at W diesels. From painted brass to various manufactures of plastic models everyone seems
to have a different color variation. Being from Bellevue,Ohio I know that the color varied from
type of engine to the age of the paint and the service area of said engines. What color is color
is the most accepted of Polly Scale or Floquil for this application ?
