Originally N&W painted it's diesels using the steam locomotive tender stencils (two different sizes IIRC)

The N&W adopted the script herald (round) on its diesels around 1958.

This scheme lasted until late 1963 when the "half moon" aka "hamburger" herald was adopted - still with black paint.

Sometime after the October 1964 merger, blue replaced black (the SD35s delivered in 1965 came in black)
