Atlas U30B Phase 2 in HO Scale

Ummm....

How is a model with flaws an accurate model? It really boils down to
what is 'Acceptable' and above the bar at which someone might buy the
model.
I LOVE the M class and M2's but the prices they want for them is
prohibitive. I will end up making my own from my own patterns.

This is the curse that we N&W modelers have to deal with when modeling
a road that designed their own and the equipment wasn't seen elsewhere.
The Y3's, K3's and Z's were an exception, as they were sold to other
roads.

I always laugh that the number of times an N&W model was made seems to
be inversely proportional to the number built.
The Y6b's and J's come to mind. Only 1 model (15 pieces) of the Y5
were ever made, and same for the Y6a, and Y6. Key did those.

Stephen,

No I did not have my glasses on, because I just had Lasik a month
ago;)!!
As for "pointing out a flaw", why can't you just be happy someone is
doing a correct N&W model? If the bell bothers you, then change it.
Would you rather have to put the whole high nose on? Or kitbash one
with Athearn, RailPower and Atlas parts?

Atlas is doing a model that is unique to N&W. Be happy.

Marty:
Did you have your glasses on when you looked at the bell. Check out
the Fallen flag photo of #8488 and then let me know if the bell is
fine. The bracket is great!
By the way, is pointing out an error a grip or a flaw?

Good lord, the model has just been announced, and the griping has
already begun! The bell looks fine, as the N&W GE's did have a
different style, (slightly narrower bracket) than what we commonly see
on EMD locomotives. As for the paint scheme, that is actually a
question mark: the image shows the block "NW", but the text
description says "black/yellow", which could suggest the half-moon
herald scheme, unless it's a misprint or the yellow is referring to
the handrail ends. Either scheme will sell just fine. We have no
problems selling N&W engines with the block "NW" in Columbus.

Russ:
The N&W bell is one of the worst I seen modeled!
Also one of the least popular paint schemes being done!

For those who haven't seen the announcement, Atlas officially released
today that they are producing the GE U30B Ph. 2 in HO Scale. Release
date is Feb '09. MSRP w/ sound is $289.95, w/o sound is $179.95. Why
is this being posted here, you ask. They are doing the high hood
version in the first run, covering N&W. There will be three road
numbers with sound and three other numbers without sound. The paint
scheme will be the block NW. Ths link below shows pre-production
samples of the high hood version, which appears that they have
corrected some of the dimensional errors in the high short hood from
previous GE Dash 7 runs.
