Hello, Peter:

I noted your comment about the absence of headlights
on British locomotives. There is a 1936 film, NIGHT
MAIL, which depicts the Down Special Traveling Post
Office (TPO) on the LMS. Several scenes don't show a
walled or fenced right-of-way. Are there no
highway-rail grade crossings anywhere in Great
Britain? I invite your comments about that film if
you'll kindly provide an email address so we can
discuss the topic off list. This is not an N&W
subject per se.

I recall when the Flying Scotsman with locomotive 4472
toured the USA in 1970. Not only was a headlight
added for USA running, but so was a bell. Of course,
the headlight is on both day and night.

Best wishes,
