First, we should probably make sure that the Society has done everything
possible to make sure that the model is done correctly. It hardly seems
fair to bash a company for their products if there was no attempt made to
provide them with accurate information. Of course, this is a two-way
street, and the manufactorer must be willing to listen, which is not always
the case.

Also, don't expect a model magazine to publish a letter criticising a
product or company. When was the last time you read a truely negative
review in a magazine? They don't want to offend companies who purchase
advertising in their magazine.

Finally, who is going to decide the standards on such a project? Based
on the feedback on this mailing-list, I would guess that the Proto Y3 would
have been the recipient of negative feedback, but I as an individual member
would not have agreed with such a statement. I therefore may have decided
to cancel my NWHS membership so as to not be associated with the
letter/endorsement. The impact of Society endorsed and non-endorsed models
would probably not be as noticable in the accuracy and sales of models as it
would be in the politics and in-fighting of the Society.

With regards to comparing the BLI A power to the PCM Y6b, does the fact
that the A has a traction tire and the Y6b does not factor in? And the
tender is not heavy because of the big speaker; my non-sound ones are heavy
as well. It is because the tender is also diecast metal, and relatively
thick metal at that, at least when compared with the thickness of plastic
tender shells.

I have not heard a sound equipped Y6b yet, but I know the PCM Reading
4-8-4's sounded odd. The exhaust almost had this rubbery or "boinging"
sound. I never heard a real one, so I don't know if that is accurate or
not. Does the Y6b's "confusing" exhaust have a similar effect? If so, is
this an inherent problem with the ESU Loksound system?
