diner vents

The attached photo shows the roof of a D1 diner (bottom center).

  The vent pattern appears asymmetrical and I am trying to figure out why
this should be.   Do the vent positions correspond to the locations of
stoves/ovens in the kitchen area?
Were the vent locations consistent from one D1 to the next?
Any information/thoughts will be appreciated.
