Unfortunately, these things seem to go in cycles of three, hopefully this is the last of the group
Member Jeff Hensley of Pikeville, Kentucky, former NS yardmaster, who headed up our Convention a few years ago has passed away.
Jeff was just a super nice guy, and always great to deal with. I will miss him.
The obituary is as follows:
Jeffery Eugene Hensley, age 69 of Pikeville, Kentucky passed away, Thursday, April 11, 2024, at the Pikeville Medical Center.
He worked as a Yard Master for Norfolk Southern for 39 years and was a member of the Railroad Historical Society. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pikeville where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He was a former Board Member of the Williamson Athletic Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Williamson Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012.
Jeffery was born in Williamson, West Virginia on November 22, 1954, a son of the late Eugene Carter "E C" Hensley and Ida Mae Fillinger Hensley.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Francis Jeanette Hensley.
He is survived by his wife, Tammie Kay Hobbs Hensley, one son, Jeffery Carter "JC" Hensley (Dr. Booke Lynn Hensley) of Pikeville, Kentucky and two daughters, Ern Mae Hensley Newsome of Pikeville, Kentucky and Kathryn Jeanett Hensley of Pikeville, Kentucky and one sister, Donna Sue Evans (Emerson "Skip") of Beckley, West, Virginia.
He is also survived by three grandchildren, Addison Mae Newsome, Blakelynn Reece Hensley and Jaycee Blair Hensley.
Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, April 14, 2024, in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel.
He will be moved to the First Baptist Church of Pikeville at 9:45 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2024, for visitation, Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Matthew Bone officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher, West Viriginia.
Honoring Jeffery by serving as Pallbearers will be, Jim Smith, Lynn Parrish, Doug Bailey, Mike Goff, Bill Staggs and Jim Hobbs.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Skip Evans, Lawrence Bartley and Phillips Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Jeffery's name to the First Baptist Church of Pikeville, 126 4th Street, Pikeville, Kentucky 41501.
