The bell and cradle had been totally removed from 2057, but it might have been for saving at the storehouse. It does not look like the treasure hunters were there, as the builders plate, whistle and headlight are still intact, although the headlight number board has been painted over.
I believe that many of the bells were removed by the railroad during the mass scrapping, I know years ago, in the cage on the fourth floor of the storehouse there were a huge number of diesel bells, like 500 plus, and still about 17 steam bells remaining. They were often presented to churches, fire stations, schools, etc. on request. So, over the years, the steam bell supply dwindled.
Stuff like headlights were only occasionally saved, whistles a bit more often. The headlights were heavy, awkward monsters and generally required two or three people to easily handle them, and the reflectors were pretty fragile in handling.
The interesting thing is the markings chalked on the jacket at the rear side elevated view “L bottom front” and “L bottom back”.

Any one with any idea what that might have been for? This is very late in the time, March 25, 1959 to be making new jacket pieces for a Y3.
