That could very well be the real 1723, restored to its original number. All the details are correct, including the lack of a real vestibule door. The doors were removed when it was rebuilt to a commuter car.

The car appears to be a N&W PM Coach. A picture is attached below. It is numbered 1723.
I have records 1723 was rebuilt in 1963 to 60 seats and renumbered 1004 and. furthermore it was donated to the Tidewater NRHS sometime later in the 60's. So I am not sure this is the actaul 1723
I visited the museum several years ago when I took this and a few other shots. I don't recall seeing any placard or sign identifying this car.
Maybe someone else has the "let's fill in the blanks" info.

Thanks for the photo. Any info on which passenger car is in the background? Is it a museum piece in Crewe also?

It’s a nice little engine, mis-numbered or not.  I’d like to see it under a roof like the 433 at Abingdon.

The Museum was padlocked closed limiting me to this through the chain links only.

You wouldn’t happen to have a photo of 600’s other side, would you?

At Crewe, we paused to record an image of the Museum’s “N&W” no. 600. It did seem an unusual looking machine and I have since learned a little bit of its history (Ft. Eustis).
