RMW Structure

Can anyone identify this Roanoke Machine Works building in the background of
this 1884 photo and for what purpose(s) it served? This building was located
immediately west of the original foundry (approx. location of present day
boiler shop) and south of the locomotive erecting shop. It is prominent in
many RMW and N&W shop photos. Not sure when it was torn down. Would be nice
