As of May 1949 the official ‘Freight Equipment Diagrams N&W Ry Co’ book shows drawings for HL, H2, H2a, H3, H4, H5, H7, H8, and H9 hoppers. There is no H6 drawing. Drawings with a later date continue on with H10, H11, etc.

I don’t know if N&W had any H6 hoppers at all. I haven’t checked Andrew Dow’s book lately but I don’t remember him addressing the problem. It is interesting that the Interstate Railroad’s hoppers were classed H6.

Subject: H6 hopper
I am researching N&W steam era hoppers and am curious why I find so little on the H6 class hopper. Is anyone aware where I could find a source of information?
