Jim,

That’s encouraging that it looks like new steel going on. I agree with you on keeping the round roof over the clerestory.

The round roof and smooth sides were part of the same rebuilding, so I hope the restoration is not going back to the clerestory roof. Looks like some new steel sheeting in the picture.

Nice to see this car getting some attention, but not sure this is going to come out looking right. I thought he round roof was probably added when they put the smooth sides on this car in the 1950’s. Anyone have any insight on that?

Friends of the 261

MINNEAPOLIS – The Friends of the 261 has begun restoration of former Norfolk & Western business car Lamberts Point. The nonprofit Friends used the car for several years on charters and excursions pulled by Milwaukee Road 4-8-4 No. 261. Now the group is moving ahead to restore the car closer to its original N&W appearance.

Restoration work is underway at the Friends shop in Minneapolis. The newer modern roof is being removed, which has exposed the original clerestory roof underneath. The roof will be repaired and restored to its original appearance. The Friends will also perform interior updates and other repairs before repainting and lettering the car for N&W.

Pullman built the car for N&W in 1918. It features cherry woodwork with brass fixtures throughout the car, which includes two large bedrooms, a dining room and lounge.
