NYC Sleeper on Powhatan Arrow Steam Era

Jeff,

That settles it. The train is the Powhatan Arrow. It's difficult to see the lettering on the sleeper, but I believe it may be a car from the Pullman pool. In the 1950's Pullman chose to update the exteriors of the heavyweights which remained in their ownership. Their choice was the NYC two tone gray color scheme. Not everything got repainted because some cars ran out their service life in Pullman green.

Ken pointed out that one of N&W's Pm was available for backup service on other trains. One of the videos out there shows it running as a substitute car on the Tennessean, which was otherwise all Southern equipment.

  Ken,

First I should correct myself, the footage was probably post 1955, not 1954. The skirting on the lightweights was removed in 1955 right? I thought it was in 1954.

The footage is at the beginning of the DVD giving reference to what trains the "J" pulled. It doesn't give reference to who filmed it or where, but I watched it again before going to work this morning.

I counted one baggage car, four of the day coaches, one diner, the NYC sleeper and either 581 or 582 observation. I would assume it is the Arrow.

Hopefully the attached screen captures show up.
