OK I am dreaming....but what if NS stepped up its game and restored it...Big Boy and the Y....I will dream about this on my Verde Railroad excursion today!
What happened to the N'S steam program anyhow?

While all this is well and good, there is still a bunch of work to do on the Y to move it. To start with reportedly there is a crack in the frame or cylinder and I have heard that a side-rod also has serious issues.
None of these are insurmountable and the various parties will, of course, do everything to fix them for the 1,000 mile or so rail journey.
Now let's have fun speculating about the routes they'll take and especially on home rails before returning "home" to Roanoke. Do I smell "photo opportunity" somewhere out on the road? Bristol Line? Shenandoah Line? Southern main? Who knows at this point, however, ..........
Interesting that as for the public relations department, NS moves steamers dead-in-train. So does UP as in the recent Big Boy. CSX and the move of the 1309 from Baltimore to Cumberland -- flatcar or whatever but not on it own wheels on CSX . Nice PR move there.
