Lynn,
     It is true that signals haven't changed all that much over the 
years. As far as signals are concerned, having a rule book in hand is 
not going to tell you any more than the links that have already been 
posted. They only show you the name of the signal, the aspect of the 
signal and the definition of the signal. Although one can figure things 
out, a rule book does not in so many words explain or show you every 
possible sequence of signal aspects that can be seen over the road. So 
for the modeler, a rule book in hand is not the end of the world.
     I will agree, that some form of picture book would be helpful would 
be most helpful to the modeler who wants to signal his layout in a 
logical manner.
