I suspect the station agent's name you all are referring to is Miss R. M. Kelly, who is listed as agent at St. James in the list of stations No. 70, effective November 1, 1956.

Other female agents on the N&W at that moment in time included the following:
Mrs. Carolyn C. Matze at Lenning on the Durham District
Miss Luetta McNeil (previously discussed) at Wirtz on the Winston-Salem District
Mrs. M.L. Quinn at Walkerstown, NC on the Winston-Salem District
Miss V.H.Hayter at Emory on the Pulaski District (this is a penciled in note)
Mrs. Gladys W, Harringer at Whitetop on the Abingdon Branch
Mrs. S. K. Tolliver at Keystone, WVa on the Pocahontas District
Gladys Pyles at Gilbert Yard on the Gilbert Branch on the Pocahontas District. (this one I am not certain if this is male or female, for every other female it was listed with a "Mrs." or "Miss.

Student's would walk the tracks to Bloom's Store, which you will recall was the local post office, general store, and source of candy, ice cream and RC Cola. I wonder if she didn't end up working for Mr. Bloom when the station closed.

I recall the station agent as being a friendly lady, possibly around 30 years old. I have no recollection of her name, but from what I've read here there were very few female station agents on N&W. It sure sounds as if this was Ms. McNeil.
