Last N&W Steam at Monroe

We know Southern ended steam in the region in late 1952 or early 1953and N&W did not permit the diesels onto its line until at least .....1955 (?)

There was an incident resulting from a coal strike (I think) in the 50's when Southern diesels
displaced N&W steam on the Monroe-Bristol runs. . . briefly.   Harry Bundy
