------
Men Considered For Promotion to General Superintendent Are Well Known
The arrival of W. R. Hudson's private car at Roanoke yesterday led to speculation as to whether the general superintendent of the Norfolk and Southern would be the next general superintendent of the western division of the Norfolk and Western. Mr. Hudson is a former Bluefielder, who went from here to the Seaboard as superintendent, and later to the Southern as superintendent, from which road he went to the Norfolk & Southern as general superintendent and his duties practically include those of a general manager.
Mr. Maher, general manager of the Norfolk & Western, from whose office the appointment will be made, was not at Roanoke yesterday and will hardly arrive there before tomorrow as at present he is in New York attending a meeting of prominent railroad men from different parts of the country. It could not be learned last night if Mr. Hudson had a conference with President Johnson yesterday. George P. Johnson is expected to arrive in Bluefield soon and it is unlikely that any announcement will he made until after he arrives here and has had an opportunity to formally resign as general superintendent. However, every man under consideration, it is said, is a Bluefielder or former Bluefielder.

[To clarify the "Johnsons," the president of the N&W then was L. E. Johnson and the General Superintendent Western Division who was moving to the Detroit, Toledo and Western was George P. Johnson.]
