I don’t recall seeing a good picture of 1728 following the rebuilding in any of this string of notes. This link has a good shot of it.

The wreck was a rear-end collision between two westbounds (during heavy fog) at Lee's Cross Roads, Pa., just east of Shippensburg, Pa. Lee's Cross Roads sits atop the watershed between the Potomac and Susquehanna Rivers.
I was at Shaffers Crossing the day the engine was returned to the N&W. It was set on the Running Track immediately west of the underpasses and a group of N&W Motive Power officials went over the engine with a fine-tooth comb. I am told that the only item in the Reading's workmanship with which they took issue was the way the carbody doors were fastened.
Repairs and painting were done at the Reading Locomotive Shop in Reading, Pa. Years later I spoke with several of the Reading shop supervisors about the job... they grinned and said they had a good time doing the work. The Reading was a "class act" in every way.
I have several none-too-good photos of the wreck and will be delighted to share them. What I don't have is the date of the incident.
