Blasting Recalls Tragedy
    The present blasting in the town by the road contractors recalls a tragedy in Graham more than twenty years ago when the double tracking was being constructed through here by the Norfolk and Western.  "Aunt" Rose Bane, colored, was killed by a blast while walking along the street where the Baylor-Barbee building now stands.  The blast was shot from the bank east of the railroad culvert.  A flying rock hit the old colored woman in the head, killing her instantly.  This incident should serve as a warning to the people here now, and every precaution should be taken against the possibility of an accident while the limestone ledge at the [N&W] tower is being broken up with dynamite.  A good sized rock was thrown from the bank yesterday to the little cottage north of the railroad above the culvert, which is evidence that it is safest to take no chances on this blasting.
