Question about the J whistles

I have a question regarding the J Class 4-8-4 whistles. A friend of
mine told me that he read somewhere that at least a couple of J's
received hooter whistles towards the end of their careers (presumably
after they were bumped from passenger service in 1958. I have not
heard this rumor before and am somewhat skeptical of my friend's
claim, but perhaps someone on the list can confirm or deny this? Thank
you for any input.
