STRUCK BY TRAIN
------
Mrs. John Jewell Killed Near Marytown Yesterday
Run down on a sharp curve between Marytown and Big Sandy, Mrs. John Jewell, of Davy, was killed yesterday morning by train No. 15. The woman, who was over fifty years in age, was walking the track from Marytown to Big Sandy, where she expected to visit friends. It is presumed that she did not know of the approach of the train until it was upon her, and on account of the curve at the point where she was killed it would have been impossible for the engineer to have seen her.
Mrs. Jewell had been located in the field for over twenty years, and was well known at many mining towns. Yesterday morning she boarded train No. 9 at Davy and went to Marytown and decided to walk from there to Big Sandy, when death overtook her.
She is survived by five sons--John, James, Ted, Buck and William--and a daughter--Mrs.Fay, of Davy.
The funeral will be held Saturday or Sunday.

[Marytown to Big Sandy, WV is 2.3 miles.]
