IN CITY AND COALFIELD
------
To Install Gasoline Locomotive
Thomas N. Righter, of Pennsylvania, and George W. St. Clair, of Tazewell, were in the city last night. They own the Jewell Ridge Coal company and are considering the installation of gasoline locomotives in their mine which was recently opened, and the production from which does not necessitate the erection of a costly electric plant in view of the coming to this section of a power company. Experience has shown them that the cost of feeding and caring for mules, which occasionally die or are injured, is too great in view of the fact that cheaper transportation can be had by installing a gasoline locomotive. Mr. Righter states that a locomotive is now on the market which entirely does away with the odor of gasoline and he is now using them successfully in the anthracite mines of Pennsylvania.
