October 1, 2010

A reminder that this time tomorrow, there will be train night at the Boyce, Virginia, train station. It follows a day-long Town of Boyce Centennial celebration.  There will be a parade at 1:30 PM which ends at the road crossing near the station.   Cup cakes will be served at the Boyce Volunteer Fire Department community hall at the US 340 blinker light.  Food, crafts, and live entertainment will be on the grassy field across from the station, ending at 6 PM.  Boyce Centennial information appears at http://townofboyceva.com/centennial_celebration.php

A bring-something-to-share cook out will begin at 6:30 PM.  You can bring whatever you or your family likes to eat, with a little to spare for someone else. There will be a grill fired up for anyone who wants to bring their own. Master Chef Bob Cohen will have a limited number of items available if you come hungry without eats: $2 for a burger, $1 for a hotdog, and $1 for a soda. First come, first served. You can avoid that tariff by having your own provisions.

There is an outdoor electrical outlet for plugging in laptops or radios in the parking lot.  Wireless Internet access is available without an encryption key, courtesy of Mack Muir and Nathan Simmons.

For those wanting to stay until dusk and into the evening, there will be a digital slide show of railway photos beginning around 7 PM PM.  If you have some good railroad pictures to share, please volunteer to show your photos.  The evening will likely conclude around 11 PM but can continue as long as there are willing presenters.

I hope people will come early and enjoy some of the Centennial events. If you do arrive before 6 PM, you may be directed to park at Saratoga farm. We can always do a car shuffle to get your vehicle at the station after the centennial finishes. If at 6 PM or later, you'll either be able to park at the station or in a grassy lot behind 127 East Main Street, accessed off of Howards Lane.

Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow for a once-in-a-century train night!

Best wishes,
