Tom

Thanks for the pictures. The cradle with the bell is not railroad and
was never use on a locomotive. but the bell and yoke are no doubt N&W
after you have seen as many as I have you can spot them right away N&W
bells are very similar to the PRR bells (actual bronze part) but the cradles are
a little different.

Can't find anything on cradle. Was modded to sit on a post. Possibly under the welds?

It most certainly is a N&W bell. 1493 is a Roanoke Shop pattern No.
for the yoke. Should be another number on the cradle. This means
at least the yoke was cast at Roanoke Shops probably replacing
the original. Send me a picture some time. lsevans at zoominternet.net

About 15 1/2 inches across, 12-12 1/2 tall. Cast into ringer (this is a 'hanger' like in the old movies, pull rope style) 1493.

send an email address to n2vfk at verizon.net so I can send the pix.

The bell should be Aprox. 16 1/2 in dia. at bottom about 14 in.
tall and would have been on a donut base. Send me the pattern
numbers on the base and yoke. And I will see if I can verifier it for you
