Suggestions Visiting WV/VA/MD

We only have a very limited number of days to sightsee and I'd like to
focus on the natural environment where N&W was running. In addition, we
would also like to visit Cass Scenic Railroad. We'll be traveling via
Frederick, MD, on our way to Richmond (or also on the way back) and
we'll detour, of course, both coming and going.
