Have Trouble With Engine
Engineer Spence and Fireman Hubbard had quite a time with old engine No. 62* when they took a string of empties to Elkhorn Thursday night. About the time they had delivered their empties to the mines and were getting ready to bring back a train load of coal a rod arm on one side of the locomotive broke, putting the machinery just half out of commission. Expectation of bringing back any freight had to be abandoned then and there, in order to meet the problem of getting the disabled locomotive back to the shops here. The feat was finally accomplished after the engine had stopped on the center several times en route and had to be started on ahead again by other engines. Home was reached about daylight yesterday morning and the locomotive placed in the shops for repairs.
