DOUBLE TRACKING ON NORFOLK AND WESTERN
------
Work That Was Stopped During the Panic Starts Again and Will be Pushed
Work has begun on improvements planned by the Norfolk and Western before the panic and held in abeyance during the severity of the business depression. It includes double tracking of the line between Kenova and Columbus, the cutting down of grades and elimination of curves. The growth of business and the outlook for better results in the future have made the resumption on a large scale imperative.
The most encouraging feature of the road's business is the improvement in the merchandise movement, a branch of traffic which some months ago was at a low level, but is now increasing rapidly. Not only does merchandise pay good rates, but an increase in its movements is one of the best inducements of returning prosperity.
