MAY LOOSE EYE SIGHT
------
Passenger on Train No. 16 Struck by Piece of Coke Thrown Though Window

When train No. 16 passed Elkhorn tunnel Tuesday night some miscreant hurled a large lump of coke weighing nearly five pounds through one of the windows. The missile struck a passenger, W. E. Stephenson, of Lynchburg, and besides badly cutting his head probably caused the loss of his eyesight, as many particles of fine glass were dashed into his eyes and face when the lump of coke struck the window. A search failed to locate the guilty party and so the train came on to this city and was held here while Dr. St. Clair attended the injured man, removing several pieces of glass from the eyeball. Dan* Baldwin went to the scene yesterday morning, but as yet nothing leading to the identity of the party has been discovered.
------
[*First name of Baldwin blurred; best interpretation is shown but it could have been "Den." Baldwin was almost certainly a detective from the Baldwin Felts detective agency, which had an office in Bluefield and which did a lot of work for the N&W. Dr. Wade Hampton St. Clair--MD, U of Va, 1900--and Dr. John F. Fox founded the Bluefield Sanitarium, where I had my tonsils removed at an early age. I can remember my grandparents talking fondly about Drs. St. Clair and Fox.]
