Editorial:
The Norfolk and Western and Virginian should make an arrangement so that the train over that line which arrives at Matoaka at 9:45 each day from Charleston could run into Bluefield without change. This would be of vast convenience to the traveling public.
Bluefield Daily Telegraph
August 6, 1907, p. 4
[An editorial on this subject the following day stated that it took almost as long to go from Matoaka to Bluefield on the N&W as to go from Charleston to Matoaka on the Virginian, and that it was almost faster to go from the state capital to Bluefield the traditional way through Kenova rather than by way of Matoaka.
The attached schedule from the Bluefield newspaper shows the passenger service on the west end of the Virginian almost two years before the Virginian was completed. Apparently, a transfer at Deepwater was required when going to or from Charleston.]
