new, old 1218 video on YouTube

How well I remember! That was the day they almost aborted the run just east
of Glen Lyn because the heavy rains had caused high water, fallen trees, and
messed up signal systems. They considered backing the train to Walton. After
sitting still for an hour or so, they decided to go on to Bluefield (as
intended). This gave us time to clear a fallen tree from 460 with a borrowed
chain saw so we could proceed west. We chased as far as Oakvale, where the
WV state troopers had closed the road up East River. We had to go to
Bluefield through Princeton. Coming back, Ron Flanary got a great scan shot
at Ada. (published in Trains several years later) Jim Nichols
