Mr. A. C. Needles Returns

Mr. A. C. Needles, general superintendent of the Norfolk &
Western, has returned to the city from a visit to Bluefield and other
points in the coal field. In reference to Mr. Needles' visit to
Bluefield, The Telegraph of that city, contained the following:
A. C. Needles, general superintendent of the eastern division of
the Norfolk & Western, was in the city a short while yesterday in
company with several other railroad men. The party left on train No.
4 for Roanoke. Mr. Needles met a number of local stockholders in the
road all of whom were beaming to find that the road is in a very
prosperous condition in spite of the slow coal shipments. The board
of directors of the road at a meeting held in New York on Thursday
declared a dividend of 2 per cent on the common stock. This is a
reduction of but one-half of one per cent as compared with the
dividend of six month ago. With the large shipments in sight on
account of the recent contract with Castner, Curran & Bullitt the
company can see prosperity in the coal business trade in this section
which must pick up with the result that business will shortly resume
a stage that may be considered normal.
