Virginia - The Vote Was 87 to 8
Richmond, Va., Feb. 12 - Special - The bill for the straight
repeal of the paralelling privilege of the Richmond, Fredericksburg
and Potomac was adopted today by the house, the vote standing 87 to 8
in favor for repeal with five members absent.
All amendments to the straight repeal were voted down. The bill
beging adopted just as it came from the senate, where it had already
been considered and passed.
The repeal means that the monopoly of the traffic between
Fredericksburg and Washington is now broken, and that the Goulds are
at liberty to build their long-contemplated line to tidewater, and to
open the way for the entrance of the Wabash system into Virginia.
