One pump or two?

I'm sure someone has noticed the "U S" on the tender, meaning that  
this was a very early shot.  Given the RRs' hatred of the USRA; I'd  
bet that the "U S" was painted out ASAP after control returned to the  
private sector in 19??.

There is an awful lot of empty space on the front of the smokebox for  
there to be a second pump. Compare to this ca.1920 photo of 2009:
