GOULDS BEHIND THE TIDEWATER RAILWAY
------
Growing Impression in Financial Circles That the Road Will be Built
------
Richmond Times-Dispatch: There is a growing impression in railroad and financial circles here that the Tidewater Railroad, chartered by the Corporation Commission recently, is going to be built, notwithstanding the many rumors to the contrary, and this view has been strengthened by several things which have happened in the past few days.
J. Baldwin R----- [blurred], of Staunton, one of the officers of the company, was here Monday night, presumably on his way to Southside Virginia, through which section the charter contemplates that the road will run, and last night fifteen civil engineers stopped over here, all registering at Murphy's as of the "Tidewater Railway," though they persistently declined to say what direction they were moving. It is believed that they are bound for the southside section, and will prosecute the work of laying the route there, as has been done in many portions of Southwest Virginia.
A gentleman from Parkersburg, W. Va., was here the other day, and he said the company had begun laying rails on the western extension, and he felt sure the road would be built. He added that he believed the Goulds were behind it, and that they were the smartest railroad people in this country.

[Seems as though the Gould rumor won't die.]
