I have a 1981 map of Roanoke-Salem-Vinton (Stone Printing). It shows the
area as having been annexed by Roanoke City as of 1/1/76. It would have been
county before that date. Roanoke City has been very active in annexations
over the years and this map is way out of date now regarding city
boundaries.

Ron,
I don't know about that hand-drawn track plan that you attached or what the
City of Roanoke boundaries were in 1950, but a January 1, 1987, track chart
shows that going east from Vinton the railroad crosses from Vinton into the
City of Roanoke at about Mile Post N-254.8, passes Boaz (and Bridge 96) at
about Mile Post N-254.1 and crosses from the City of Roanoke into Roanoke
County at about Mile Post N-253.6, putting Boaz in the current boundaries of
the City of Roanoke.
Maybe the question is whether Boaz was or is in the City of Roanoke.

Harry,
I disagree with you here. Boaz Pusher Siding is in Roanoke County, not in
the City of Roanoke or the Town of Vinton.
Check out this 1950s vintage track chart.

The Bridge #96 (a culvert actually) just east of the siding is still in
place and is the only landmark that remains in place today.
Interestingly, my 1969 lists of stations and sidings shows Boaz Pusher
Siding at Mile Post 250.62, not MP 254 as shown on this chart.

The Boaz pusher siding has been removed. It was
located at Mile Post 254, or a mile timetable east of
Vinton in an area known to railroaders as Berkley
Bottom. It was a third of a mile east of the Berkley
Road crossing, but was still within the City of Roanoke.
Briefly, the Norfolk Division had two Boaz's -- the
pusher siding and one in Isle of Wight County on the
former VGN. A distinction was made by identifying
the station east of Roanoke as the Boaz Pusher Sdg.
