whistles

Ron and All,
 
On Link's first N&W record, there is a band recorded on the Shenandoah  line 
of a Y-6b's whistle breaking into a scream.  Soon after the  record came out, 
I contacted Mr. Link and I was told the engine  on that particular band was 
2173. I understand that a really skilled  whistle-artist engineer could make 
that high pitched scream happen when closing  the valve and then jerking it open 
again at just the right instant.
