Thanks for the info Robb.
In my humble opinion I believe the museum needs a railroader at heart for a director. I know a lot of directors and curators are well educated and versed in history, but I think that museum needs someone who's not afraid to get down and dirty and get in there and fix that place up. Not someone who wants to hire it out or get volunteers to do it all, but someone who's a "dirt under the fingernails" worker who'll jump in there and help get it done.
I was just thinking about how the place could look. It just seems to me it's suffering from a lack of interest. And, that's a shame considering Roanoke's railroad heritage. I was also thinking as I walked around "...if I was the director, I'd do this..." kinda thing as I looked around, but I don't have a sack full of B.A. degrees to back me up, and I doubt that many railroaders do. But, there are some out there, if only they would try to find one. (Just thinking about the Claytor's... Well educated men, railroaders to the core...)
Just my opinion...

Severe case of HUA disease sums it up. The missing 'displays' are in the
scrap/storage tracks of Park St yard. They were moved there some time ago
to make room for 'improvements' under the direction of some art guy from
VT...
