"My questions are, where exactly was this Wye located for that matter did it even exist?
When was it put in and when was it taken out?
What was it used for?"

Nathan,
The wye did exist. If you will go up to the road crossing at Lofton and drive north on the road next to the tracks to its end, then walk north a little more psat the signal at H162, you can see how the wye went off to the east and the culvert that went under the tracks.
The wye was used to turn the steam pushers that had pushed trains out of Roanoke.
It must have been put into service when the double track was taken over the mountain during WWII as before then the wye track was at Pkin.
It was taken out when that idiot decide to take out the double track over the mountain.
Check out the ETT's from the late '40s -'50s available from the N&WHS Commissary
